Abstract

The current research aims to identify the problems that middle school students suffer from in the lesson on expression. The research included a description of the research community, the selected sample, the tools used and the steps to apply them, as well as the methods. Baghdad Al-Karkh II. The researcher adopted the questionnaire as a tool to achieve the research objectives, I sent an open questionnaire to (75) teachers and schools that included an open question that included six aspects related to the problems of teaching written expression, which are, Objectives of teaching expression - Choosing topics for written expression. Teaching methods and methods used - Arabic language teacher, Students correct written expression topics.  In light of the results, the researcher made some recommendations. The necessity of highlighting the importance of expression in the life of the student, clarifying its place in our literary heritage, discussing its problems in seminars held by specialists, preparing a curriculum for teaching expression that includes the objectives of teaching the subject and the proposed topics divided into comprehensive axes for all linguistic activities, and the proposed function and creativity are divided into comprehensive axes for all linguistic activities. I arrived at the following proposals, building a standard to evaluate students’ written expression. The style and words include examining the remembrances, their harmony, linking them to each other, and taking into account the requirements of sentences, grammar, dictation, and punctuation. Studying the relationship between the teacher’s ability to express themselves in writing and his students’ ability in written expression. Conducting a similar study that addresses the problems of teaching written expression in other educational levels.
