Abstract

This research examines “Hidden Camera Programs” by defining television programs in general, presenting the concept, mechanism, and historical development of the camera, and then defining hidden camera shows, their nature, methods, and global and Arab spread. The study then analyses the impact of these programs from an Islamic jurisprudential perspective and from a legal perspective. From a Sharī‘ah standpoint, the study clarifies that such programs are built upon deception, lying, frightening people, and causing harm - acts that are prohibited in Islam, despite the fact that humour is permitted within limits. Furthermore, they waste time and money and sometimes mock religious symbols. Legally, the study discusses the regulation of surveillance cameras, distinguishing between lawful use for protection and unlawful secret usage that violates personal privacy - while also noting some Iraqi judicial applications related to the admissibility of audio and video recordings as evidence. The research concludes that although hidden camera shows seem entertaining, they contain significant ethical, religious, and legal violations that necessitate reconsideration and regulation to protect individuals’ dignity and rights.
