Abstract

The research aims to study one of the symbols of Lebanese journalism, the Lebanese journalist Nassib El-Matni (1902-1958), one of the founders of the Lebanese Press Syndicate and one of the first generation who resisted colonialism. He stood against the policy of alliances that the ruling authorities tried to involve Lebanon in. He was also the owner of the newspaper Al-Telgraph, which represented the platform and mouthpiece used by the opposition to express its rejection of the policy of President Camille Chamoun and his orientations aimed at choosing the path of the West and gradually deviating from the moderate line that Lebanon followed in its alignment with the Arab countries in their political and diplomatic positions that rejected Western projects and alliances. Then he sought seriously to spread the spirit of sectarian division among the Lebanese, then to persecute the patriots and free people of the country, the last of which was represented by the crime of assassinating the journalist Nassib El-Matni. This crime was considered the spark that ignited the fires of the popular uprising of 1958.
