Abstract

The aim of the research was to identify: 1-. Measure the religious identity among university students. 2- Find the differences in religious identity according to the variables of (gender - major) by testing the validity of the following comparisons: a. There are no significant differences in religious identity among university students according to the gender variable (males, females).  b. There are no significant differences in measuring religious identity among university students according to the academic major variable (scientific, humanities). To achieve the research objectives, the researcher adopted the following: The researcher adopted Stefan Huber’s (2012) Centrality of Religiosity Scale, which consists of five domains: (core beliefs, ideology, public practice of rituals with others, private practice of rituals, and experience). The scale consists of (16) items distributed across these domains. The researcher applied the scale to a sample of (400) students, with(140) males and(260) females for the academic year 2024-2025, from six faculties at the University of Baghdad: Arts, Islamic Studies, Education (Ibn Rushd), Pharmacy, and Engineering. The results were as follows: 1- University students possess a religious identity. 2- There are no statistically significant differences in religious identity based on the variables of (gender – major(. The research concluded with a discussion of the results and presented some recommendations and suggestions.
